Lubricate XYZ rods

This information is contained on page 79-82 of the Infinity 3D Printer Operations & Maintenance Manual that you received with your 3D Printer

Required Tools: The precision oiler provided with the printer, or any type of synthetic mineral oil (can be found in most supplying stores)

Time required: 5 minutes or less

Maintenance period: Approximately every 30 hours of printing.

THE X,Y, AND Z LINEAR RODS AND THE Z-AXIS THREADED RODS NEED TO BE LUBRICATED/OILED REGULARLY TO REDUCE WEAR AND ENSURE MINIMAL FRICTION WHILE PRINTING. THE TOOL HOLDER INSIDE THE PRINTER FRAME PROVIDES CONVENIENT ACCESS TO THE PRECISION OILER FOR THE RODS ON THE PRINTER.

Steps to lubricate the rods:

Simply add enough oil at the base of each rod to reduce wear; typically, a drop or two. To ensure a tidy machine, avoid adding excessive lubricant.

  1. Turn the printer On.
  2. Open MatterControl on the Touch Interface.
  3. Release stepper motors (see Release Stepper Motors).
  4. Add 1-2 drops of oil to the X-axis linear rods.
  5. Gently slide the Extruder Assembly back and forth a few times on the X-axis.
  6. Add 1-2 drops of oil to the Y-axis linear rods.
  7. Gently slide the Quick-change Build Platform back and forth a few times on the Y-axis.
  8. Add 1-2 drops of oil to the four Z-axis linear rods and two Z-axis threaded rods.
  9. Home all axes (see Home the Printer).
  10. Move the Z-axis up by 100mm (see X/Y/Z Axis Movement Control).
  11. Home all axes (see Home the Printer).
