Parts post-processing

There are several ways to post-process PLA printed parts:

  1. To have a smooth aspect, you can use sandpaper or wood/metal files on the printed surface. Be careful to not file too fast as PLA heats up with friction and can melt easily. To avoid this, file at a slow speed or use wet sandpaper.
  2. If using support for your print with sufficient z gap of 2-4 layers, the support can be removed with a cutter or knife and then gently filed.
  3. If you are looking for a sleek finish, PLA can also be primed and painted with spray paints. A high build primer works well. Look for spray paints appropriate for plastics. Be sure to spray paint in a well ventilated area and let dry thoroughly.
